More than five motor vehicles have been stolen since the start of the year from the community of Eltham Acres in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
According to one resident of the community, whose vehicle was stolen on July 8, she had parked her car inside the yard only to discover that the vehicle was gone the following day.
"The car was just missing. The gates were just left open. I heard nothing, the alarm didn't go off, no dogs in the area were barking. I just completely heard nothing and nobody heard anything. I reported the matter to the police and from what I heard from persons in the area, it has been happening for some time," she said.

The latest car theft in the community was between last Thursday night and Friday morning. Almost a week earlier, last week Saturday, thieves made off with a white Toyota Axio. The resident who was relieved of his motor vehicle said he too discovered his vehicle missing the following morning.
"I reach home about 10 p.m. and looked out about 6 a.m. and didn't see the car," he said. He pointed out that the thieves had placed building blocks behind the doors of the houses they want to target for vehicles.
He is of the opinion that a new entertainment facility close to the community is posing a problem.
"They have a new place open up across the road. It draws all sorts of people. They have dance over there almost every night. The community is open, it's not protected by anyone," he said.
The suggestion had been made for the community to hire security to patrol the area, however, no one is willing to foot the bill.
In the meantime, a policewoman at the Spanish Town Police Station said she was aware of the thefts and could therefore provide no more details on the issue.
