The St Catherine South police said they are awaiting the result of a post-mortem to aid their probe into circumstances surrounding the death of seven-year-old Kadesha Cousins whose body was recently fished from the Rio Cobre.
Speaking with our news team yesterday, head of the division, Senior Superintendent Noel Christie, said it's still early days yet.
He told THE STAR, "We could be looking at a criminal investigation as well as other natural causes, but we are unable to go forward until a post-mortem on Monday (today) or Tuesday (tomorrow)...as soon as this is done we will be in a better position moving forward."
Kadesha, from West Avenue, Central Village, St Catherine, was reported missing on Wednesday, November 5. Her body was found in the Rio Cobre, near Dyke Road in the parish on Friday.
Reports are that Kadesha was last seen about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday at a bus stop dressed for school. Relatives became concerned after she did not return home and filed a Missing Person's Report.
On Friday, about 3:30 p.m., a fisherman saw a body in the river and summoned the police. It was later confirmed to be that of Kadesha.
The police are urging anyone who may have any information that could assist them to contact the Caymanas Police Station at 984-2644, police 119 emergency number, or the nearest police station.
