The Transport Ministry has cut back on the proposed increase in bus fares for senior citizens travelling onboard Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) buses.
Instead of the proposed increase to $60 for seniors (60 years and over) come Sunday, they will instead pay $40.
Senior citizens presently pay $20 on JUTC buses.
There was widespread complaints that the seniors could not afford an additional $40 to the fare.
Following a meeting yesterday with government representatives and public sector unions, the Transport Ministry said the Cabinet had agreed to a $20 roll back.
However, while senior citizens will now pay $40, there will be no change in the announced fare structure for the other categories.
As a result, adults will pay $120 up from $100, while students and the disabled will pay $30 up from $20.
