Five Haitians who arrived in St Thomas being processed

André Williams, STAR Writer

The marine police say they have begun processing five persons, three of whom are Haitians, who arrived in the parish of St Thomas by boat Monday morning.

Information reaching our news team is that the group landed about 11 a.m. in Holland Bay and was taken to the Marine Police Station at Bowden.

THE STAR gathered that one of two women, among the group of Haitians is pregnant.

All were reportedly medically examined and it was outlined to our news team that they were not being treated as refugees at this time.

According to the police, the Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA), has been contacted and is expected to process the Haitians in short order.

THE STAR was also told that the police in Haiti will be contacted to determine whether the man was among those who escaped during a recent jailbreak in that country in which 329 prisoners managed to escaped.

Some have since been recaptured.
