Elderly woman beaten for mango


A woman accused of beating an elderly woman with wire over mangoes, will know her fate on September 8 when she will be sentenced. Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm is Racquel Haslam, who was fingerprinted.


The court heard from the elderly complainant that the accused took up some mangoes from her stall on King Street in Kingston.


The complainant further stated that she told the accused to put them down, however an altercation developed and the complainant used a wire to hit the accused. The elderly woman said that during the tussle, she was shoved and beaten with the wire.


Senior Resident Magistrate Georgiana Fraser asked the accused if she had ever been convicted of any crime to which the accused stated, "a gentleman seh mi rob him but mi never rob him".


The accused is to return to court in early September.
