Woman fatally stabbed in dispute

An argument which escalated into a fatal stabbing has resulted in a 20-year-old woman being dragged before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court to answer a murder charge.

The woman, Vennesa Cameron, of a Seaview Gardens address, appeared in court yesterday.

It is alleged that on October 9 around 8:15 a.m., Cameron attacked the woman who was walking with her friends. According to reports, the pair were previously engaged in a heated argument.

During the confrontation, a knife was used to stab the woman in the groin area. The injured woman was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where she died.

During court yesterday, the accused woman's attorney however, argued that she acted in self- defence. He stated that she was ganged and attacked by the woman and her friends.

"She was walking her daughter to school in the morning and the deceased and her five friends attacked her and she attempted to defend herself," he said.

The attorney also stated that Cameron was forced to leave the community after the incident because she was being threatened by the woman's father who is influential in the community.

Cameron was remanded into custody and is to return to court for mention today.
