JUTC ordered to pay $48m to claimants

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company has been ordered to pay out $48 million to four claimants who got injured four years ago.


It was revealed that the award was handed down in the Supreme Court by Justice David Batts on February 3.


The case was filed on behalf of four persons who suffered injuries on February 21, 2010 accident. It was revealed that the claimants were passengers in a bus which crashed in Hellshire, St Catherine.


This resulted in them being hospitalised. The matter was placed in the Supreme Court by the law firm Kinghorn and Kinghorn.


It was the same law firm which had secured a $106 million settlement for persons injured during a church trip to St Ann.
