Woman remanded for injuring child

A woman who was hauled before the court for injuring a child in her care wept openly in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday when she was remanded.

Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and cruelty to a child is Peaches McIntosh.

The court heard that the child was punched in the eye after refusing to wear red and white colours associated with Valentine's Day to school.

Crying in court, the woman denied ever punching the child and told Resident Magistrate (RM) Grace Henry-McKenzie that she slapped the child with a yellow belt and that she was not a cruel person.

She also told the RM that she was both mother and father for the child.

A probation report was subsequently ordered by Henry-McKenzie. McIntosh is to return to court on March 4.
