An 18-year-old accused of stabbing a man was sentenced Tuesday to 30 months in prison in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.
He is André Murray, charged with unlawful wounding.
The court heard that the complainant spent 21 days in hospital following the attack.
Allegations are that Murray attacked the man using a ratchet knife, inflicting wounds to his right hand and left shoulder. The Crown alleged that Murray chased the man, who had fled, and stabbed him several times in his back.
"I think he should go to prison for what he has done," said Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey as she directed her disapproval at Murray's mother, who appeared in court with him.
Murray's mother was seen in tears soon thereafter as Pusey decided her son's fate.
Pusey sentenced the man to two and a half years in prison.
