St James scam case set for May 28, 2014

WESTERN BUREAU:

Two St James men arrested during an Anti-Lottery Scam Task Force raid last year had their case set for mention on May 28 when they appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Electrician Omar Holmes, 32, and 24-year-old sales representative Errol Wright, both from Lilliput, and who were charged with conducting fraudulent transactions, had their bails extended after the court was told that the forensic certificate in the case was not ready.

Allegations are that on July 19, 2013, approximately 11:30 a.m., police, armed with a search warrant, raided premises occupied by the two. Seven sheets of paper with identification information from overseas and a notebook with similar information were seized, and both men were arrested and charged.

"The forensic certificate is still outstanding," clerk of the court Natalie Malcolm told presiding magistrate Carolyn Tie, when the case was called up on Wednesday.

RM Tie subsequently extended the defendants' bail until when the file is expected to be completed.

"You are both to return here on May 28," RM Tie told the men before allowing them to leave the courtroom.
