Husband pays $100,000 for wife's injuries


A case of jealousy has resulted in a man being forced to pay $100,000 to cover medical expenses after it was alleged that he assaulted his estranged wife.


Forty-two-year-old Ainsley Watson, of a Kingston 6 address, was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm. He appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.


According to reports, on January 19, at approximately 10 a.m., the complainant entered the Twin Gates Plaza in Half-Way Tree when she saw her husband in the parking lot where he operates a taxi in the area.


Her son went to speak to the accused and she heard him say to her, "a wha do yuh neck?" referring to a hickey, to which she responded, "dat nuh concern yuh!"

Watson allegedly got angry, and according to the complainant, he pulled her by her blouse and proceeded to slap and punch her in the face.


She also stated that he slammed her head into her car and used the car door to slam on her foot as she tried to make her escape.


Watson denied the allegations stating, "I never touched her, she run in the car and slam herself inna di car," he continued, "I was so traumatised, I wouldn't do something like that."


The complainant told the court that she received injuries to her neck, head and back, and has spent a total of $95,000 to treat her injuries.


The pair is to return to court to on March 3, when Watson is to reimburse the complainant for her medical bills.
