Gun seized at nightclub

Several weapons, including a firearm, were seized during an operation conducted at several premises on Ripon Road, St Andrew, on Saturday night.


The operation was conducted by the St Andrew Central police with the assistance from the Canine Division and Flying Squad.


The police said during the operation, which was conducted between midnight and 3 a.m., several premises were searched and a .40 pistol along with seven .40 rounds of ammunition were found inside a nightclub's bathroom. No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.


The police also seized one axe, two ratchet knives, two kitchen knives and several ice picks inside the nightclub. Several vehicles were also towed and impounded for breaches of the Road Traffic Act. Additionally, five females were also arrested during the operation - four for loitering and one for trespassing.


Furthermore, the police are warning persons to desist from parking and vending along Ripon and Eureka roads.


Persons visiting places of amusement and entertainment in the area are also being asked to desist from parking on private premises. Failure to comply will result in the lawmen enforcing the Towns and Communities Act and the Road Traffic Act, the police said.
