Athlete's brother shot at club

The brother of one of the nation's most popular track stars was shot and seriously injured on Friday night in a brazen attack outside an adult entertainment nightclub in St Andrew.

According to police's Corporate Communications Unit (formerly CCN), about 10:09 p.m., the 36-year-old male was standing outside the club when he was approached by an armed man who opened fire hitting him in the shoulder and abdomen.

The attacker escaped on foot in the area. Police said the injured man was assisted to hospital, where he was admitted in serious but stable condition.

Although the police were unable to confirm or deny the man's identity, based on information received, The Star investigative team uncovered that the individual is the half-brother of a prominent track and field star.

In the meantime, detectives from the Cross Roads Criminal Investigative Branch (CIB) are asking members of the public to assist with information in locating the gunmen in the matter. Anyone with information is being asked to contact the CIB at 926-6657, 119, or the nearest police station.
