WESTERN BUREAU:
A United States citizen, who ingested 59 pellets of cocaine to smuggle into Jamaica, will be sentenced in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Curtis Fletcher, from Florida, pleaded guilty to possession of, dealing in and attempting to import cocaine on Monday. He was remanded.
The court heard that about 12:30 p.m. on January 24, Fletcher arrived at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was intercepted by the investigating officer, and taken to a room where he was interviewed.
Fletcher was subsequently taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital and, during the next three days, excreted the cocaine. He was subsequently charged.
"What was the estimated weight (of the substance)?" Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tie asked clerk of the court Orrett Brown.
"Two pounds, Your Honour," said Brown.
Tie ordered that the confiscated cocaine be taken to the forensic laboratory to determine its exact weight.
"The investigating officer can take the substance to the labora-tory, and we will get the receipt (result) by Monday. I will ask for his (Fletcher) records as well," said Tie.
