A man accused of disciplining his stepdaughter using brute force had his bail extended in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
He is Carl Miller who pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault occasioning bodily harm.
The court heard that the teenage complainant's mother, who appeared in court with her, recalled that she and her daughter were reportedly at odds on the day in question. It is believed that shortly after sending the complainant to her bedroom to sleep, she found a young man hiding under the teenage girl's bed sometime later. Upon making the discovery, it is believed that the complainant's mother told her common-law husband who was not at home. It is alleged that upon arrival to their home, Miller sought to discipline the teenage girl by assaulting her, damaging a cellular phone belonging to her in the process.
Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered the accused to return to court on April 3 for trial.
