Pastor accused of making sexual advances, threats to teen, gets bail

A minister of religion who is accused of making threat against a teenager after she reportedly spurned his sexual advances was granted bail in the sum of $300,000 in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

When the accused appeared, his lawyer, Shantez Stewart, made a successful bail application. Stewart told the court that his client is a man of God who is leading many souls to the Lord through prayer and fasting.

He said the accused is a well-respected member of his community who needs to get on with the Lord's work. ''He is indeed a fit and proper candidate to be admitted to bail as he is steadfast in his religion," Stewart said.

Bail was subsequently granted on condition that the accused reports to the Spanish Town Police Station on Wednesdays and Saturdays and return to court on May 13 when the matter will be mentioned.

Allegations before the court are that sometime this month, the complainant was approached by the accused who made an advance to her. He reportedly started threatening her when she refused his suggestions.

A report was made to the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse which resulted in him being charged.
