A man whom the St Ann police say has been on the run for more than four years, after being accused of defrauding a businessman of more than $2.1 million, has now been caught.
He is Wayne Campbell otherwise called Wayne Robinson, a 46-year-old labourer of Lillifield district, St Ann.
Reports reaching THE STAR are that in 2009, Campbell met and convinced the businessman that he was able to supply him with a flat- bed wrecker for $2.1 million. It is reported that the money was paid over in six instalments and the businessman was furnished with receipts.
To convinced the businessman that he had the vehicle, he reportedly showed him a picture of the wrecker and gave him the name of the broker.
When the man checked out the names, it was revealed that no record of that vehicle existed and that the wharf had no knowledge of the transaction.
Campbell, when confronted kept giving excuses to the businessman each time he's asked to refund the money or hand over the vehicle
A report was made to the St Ann's Bay police and an investigation launched. The accused reportedly left the parish for years and was not seen again until he was held last week in Runaway Bay, St Ann.
