Accused fined for beating woman


A man accused of dragging a woman off a bus and beating her was fined in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday.


He is Ackeem Grant, charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and criminal destruction of property.


Allegations are that Grant approached a bus in which the woman was travelling, and proceeded to punch her in the face, assaulting her. He then dragged her from the bus and flung her to the ground further assaulting her causing her to sustain injuries and damaging a merino she was wearing.


Grant pleaded guilty with explanation to the charges.


Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered the accused to pay a fine of $5,000 or serve six months for the assault charge, and $3,000 or serve six months for the criminal destruction of property charge.
