The director of public prosecutions (DPP) has ruled that a policeman who was allegedly held with contraband at the Linstead Police Station be charged departmentally.
It was revealed that the policeman was ordered released from police custody.
THE STAR learnt that it was the opinion of the lawyers that there was enough to proceed criminally against the policeman.
It was the DPP's decision that the Police High Command should carry out disciplinary action against the probation constable.
The policeman who is attached to the Linstead Police Station was arrested by his colleagues who claimed he had drugs, liquor and cigarette in the vicinity of the lock-up.
He was held on suspicion of breaches of the Corrections Act.
A file was compiled and sent to the DPP for its ruling.
Meanwhile, a senior personnel told THE STAR that the constable is on suspension, while a date is set for an inquiry.
