Fifty-year-old painter Arnold Coleis hoping to be selected as the Paternity Puzzle winner so that he can clear up any doubts in his mind that his two year-old son born to 21-year-old promotions girl Maria Jonesis in fact his child.
Many years ago, Cole and Jones were neighbours living in Linstead, St Catherine. The pair was never in a relationship and Cole admitted to paying Jones for sex which eventually led to her becoming pregnant.
Cole believes that the child is his, admitting to THE STAR that the baby resembles him as well as his side of family. He said that Jones gave a man who agreed to act as the child's foster parent. However, Jones has a different resolve, pointing out that the child is for her current lover.
Cole: "I want to take care of this child and send him to school. This young lady use to come to me and see me, so there is a possibility. She gave the child to someone she doesn't even know who is."
Jones: "Me and him never together. He just did some things for me and that's it. Now and then, now and then. We never on anything regular, regular," Jones stated alluding that their relationship was an exchange of money for sex.
She continued that she has told Cole that the child did not belong to him, however, he remains insistent that it is his.
Jones: "Mi done tell him say the pickney is not for him already. The pickney dead stamp of mi babyfather. True him get another girl pregnant and she did lose her baby, so true that people telling him the baby look like him, he must have taken that in hand".
According to Jones, the community in which they live is well aware that the child is not for Cole.
Jones: "Him just bright and presumptuous."
Cole: "The child resembles me and my family. If it is not mine, I will move on."
