Two St Catherine residents appeared visibly shocked after they were each fined $150,000 or 30 days imprisonment for abstracting electricity when they appeared in court yesterday.
Those fined for trespassing on the work of the Jamaica Public Service are Desmond Longmore and Marlene Francis, both of Portmore addresses in St Catherine.
They were fined by Resident Magistrate Lyle Armstrong in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
The Clerk of Court outlined that on September 3, 2014, personnel from the JPS and the police conducted an operation. During the operation, houses of both accused were checked and found to be illegally connected to the JPS power supply.
They were subsequently charged with abstracting electricity.
