Girlfriend gets beat up for being 'ungrateful'

A man accused of hitting his girlfriend with a lamp after she threatened to terminate their relationship had his bail extended when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm is 37-year-old electrician Andrew Fearon from Old Hope Road, St Andrew.

Allegations are that on September 3, approximately 12:15 a.m., at the complainant's home, the 34-year-old complainant reportedly told him that she is going to terminate their relationship.

Sometime after the initial revelation, it is alleged that Fearon, in a fit of rage, punched the complainant in her eye. It is believed that the accused man then proceeded to fling his girlfriend on a bed, punching her repeatedly all over her body.

It is believed that the accused then reached for a metal bedside lamp on a night table, and used it to hit her several times.

The complainant had to seek medical attention for the injuries she had sustained during the alleged onslaught.

Sometime after the incident, the complainant reported the matter to the Matilda's Corner police. Police personnel went in search of Fearon at his premises where he was arrested and later charged.

When cautioned, Fearon said "Officer, she is a ungrateful woman, after all mi do fi her."

In court, the accused man had his bail extended by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey. He returns to court on November 24, pending an outstanding medical report. A fingerprint order was also made against him.

Brothers clash over land

A heated dispute between brothers, allegedly over land, has left them both with chop wounds and has landed one in hospital and the other in police custody.

The incident reportedly happened in the Gravel Hill area of Clarendon in the wee hours of the morning, a resident, declining to be named, stated.

The names of the men have not been released by the police. According to the resident, the older brother is in hospital nursing chop wounds, after almost losing both his legs, while the younger brother has been taken into police custody following the incident.

"The bigger brother get chop up. I don't know if he is going to walk again, to how the foot chop. The last I heard was that he was rushed to theatre (hospital)," the resident said, pointing out that they were using cutlasses.

The Milk River police have confirmed the incident. However, they would not provide details on the reason for the chopping.
