A Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldier accused of assaulting his wife was ordered to attend counselling sessions when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Charged with assaulting a female is 27-year-old Bertland Brown of a Waterloo Road, Kingston, address.
Allegations are that on August 23, at approximately 1 p.m., the accused man and his wife had just finished making love and went to sleep. It is believed that a short while later, Brown awoke and started using his wife's cellular phone when he discovered nude pictures as well as a number of text messages sent to her male friends. At this point, Brown reportedly awoke his wife to ask her about what he had just seen. His wife reportedly got upset that the man had invaded her privacy repeatedly asking, "Why did you go through my phone?" It is believed that an argument developed between the two thereafter, resulting in Brown punching the complainant.
Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered that the matter be referred to a probation officer for the married couple to receive counselling. They are to return to court on November 6.
