An alleged con artist who was dressed as a doctor has been held by the police. The alleged scammer was reportedly held last week in a sting operation, donning green scrubs (protective garment worn over clothing to minimise bacterial transfer at hospitals) and a stethoscope around his neck.
Reports are that about 5 p.m., the police were on an operation in Greater Portmore, St Catherine. They searched a premises and accosted the man. His mode of dressing almost threw the lawmen off but he was eventually arrested.
Police are probing complaints that the man, who uses a number of fake names, operates an employment agency in the Corporate Area, which he uses to swindle persons promising them visas and jobs overseas.
The man, whose identity is being withheld pending further investigations, was arrested last year but absconded.
Police were unable to ascertain why the man had donned a doctor's disguise, but are asking the public to assist in their prosecution of the repeat offender.
"Anyone thinking they may have been scammed by a man purporting himself to be a doctor, or having the alias Garcia Hernandez Perez or Roger Perez, should contact the Organised Crime Investigation Division (OCID), and bring all relevant documentation of any transaction conducted with the individual," a representative of the OCID stated.
