Police late last night identified the four men who were shot dead when gunmen emptied their weapons on a car yesterday, and made off with more than $1 million.
They are Craig Christopher Harris, Carlton Scott, Kirk Anthony Foote and Courtney Corbourn aka 'Soljie', all from Bog Walk in St Catherine.
The brazen daylight drama unfolded in Bower's Hill district, Bog Walk, the St Catherine North police said.
Superintendent Clive Blair, the operations officer for the division, said the incident occurred about 2:30 p.m. as a group of men were taking money to pay salaries to persons employed to China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC).
Two of the victims reportedly died on the spot while the others were pronounced dead at hospital. The police have listed robbery as the motive for the deadly attack.
Jennifer Armond, the regional communications manager for CHEC, said only one of the deceased men was associated with her company. Armond could not confirm that the stolen money was to be used to pay salaries.
She said preliminary reports suggest the men were robbed and killed after leaving the CHEC site in Linstead. She said the man associated with CHEC was a liaison with community workers in the area.
The murders have shocked residents who turned up to view the murder scene yesterday. The residents are calling for vehicles to be given to the Bog Walk Police Station which would enable a quicker response by the lawmen.
Investigation is being conducted by the St Catherine North Major Investigation Task Force.
