Cops probe if ...DUMB MAN CHOPS 72-Y-O for rum

The police in Old Harbour, St Catherine are now in search of a speech-impaired man following a fatal chopping incident last Saturday morning after an alleged dispute over rum.


Information reaching our news team is that the deadly assault took place at about 3:00 a.m. on Darlington Drive in Old Harbour.


The dead man has been identified as 72-year-old Noel Shaw of Westmoreland.


Reports are that there was a dispute over a drink of rum when a sharp instrument was brought into play, which was used to chop and stab Shaw.


He died on the spot from injuries received.


Further reports are that Shaw resided in Westmoreland but was in Old Harbour to attend his father's wake.


Confrontation


An alleged eyewitness told our news team, "He was made aware that a group of dumb men were stealing the rum. One of the dumb man was caught and Shaw stopped him ... The brother of the dumb man, who is also dumb, saw the confrontation and left the set-up and went home."


THE STAR was told that on his return, all hell broke loose.


"The brother of the dumb man returned with a machete and chopped Shaw in the back of his head ... him drop at the gate of his family home and died on the spot. The group of dumb men then fled the scene,"said the eyewitness.


Shaw's family is now preparing to bury another member in coming weeks.
