LIME, the technology engine behind the business accelerator to nurture Jamaica's young software developers and tech entrepreneurs, dubbed 'Start Up Jamaica', put the venture into high gear at an event to officially launch the project on Monday.
LIME has made a multi-million dollar investment to provide a wide array of technology tools required to power a modern business accelerator. These include high-speed Internet access; the latest Avaya IP Office Solution for the most modern voice communication experience; screens and projectors to enable digital presentation of developed material; and all furniture, fixtures and fittings consistent with a comfortable, ultra-modern 'tech zone' experience.
During a panel discussion that followed an official signing with public and private stakeholders, LIME CEO, Garfield Sinclair, acknowledged the global link between technical innovation and economic growth and explained how it influenced LIME's involvement in the project.
In acknowledgement of LIME's 140-year history of using innovation to move Jamaica forward, Sinclair expressed that LIME will continue to be a partner in expanding the Jamaican economy.
"Economic growth benefits all of our companies and the Treasury. Through initiatives like Start Up Jamaica, we can create a bigger economy which, in turn, creates an economy driven by technical innovation, which then leads to the creation of more jobs and companies like LIME attracting more customers," he said.
Located at Jamaica National Building at 32 Duke Street, downtown Kingston, the tech accelerator is ready to welcome its first batch of App and programme developers, having opened applications in early July.
