Men charged for stealing from children's homes

Three men charged with larceny of goods they were to deliver at several children's homes were granted bail in the sum of $300,000 each when they appeared in court on Tuesday.

Those charged are Fedrick Williamson, 42-year-old driver and delivery men Alexander Williamson and David Morrison, both 47. All three accused men are from Rose Hall district, St Catherine. In applying for bail, attorney-at-law Shantez Stewart told the court that his clients are fit candidates for bail.

He said that there were loopholes in the Crown's case. One of the loopholes was proving who signed for the goods. Stewart said his clients were innocent and he would prove it. Bail was subsequently granted on condition that they report to the Linstead Police Station from Monday and Friday.

No delivery

It's being alleged that the men were employed to Nestle Jamaica Limited. In August, the company did an investigation which revealed that goods valued about $600,000, which were to be donated to three children's homes in St Catherine were not delivered.

Investigations revealed that despite persons reportedly signing for the goods saying they were delivered, this was not the case. The men were charged after the police theorised that the accused forged the signatures of those who should have received the food items. The men were subsequently charged with larceny.

They are booked to reappear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on November 18 - by then the file should be completed. Attorney-at-Law Shaneek Nembhard is watching proceedings on behalf of Nestle.
