A man accused of stealing a quantity of goods was ordered to pay a fine or face imprisonment when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Charged with simple larceny is Demart Wilson, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
The court heard that, on the day in question, Wilson stole 17 cases of Ensure nutritional drinks and six cases of Cup Noodles instant ramen noodle snacks from an establishment in which it is said he was employed.
In court, Wilson said that he was forced to take the goods in order to care for his ailing grandfather.
Subsequently, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered the accused man to pay a fine of $30,000 or serve six months in prison. A fingerprint order was also made against him.
