Man fined for slapping teen in the face

A St Catherine man who admitted to 'disciplining' a teenager with a slap to the face was fined $15,000 or three months imprisonment when he appeared in the Old Harbour Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday.


Damion Dennis of Old Harbour Bay, St Catherine, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm after he slapped a 13-year-old boy in the face.


Dennis told the court that the complainant was doing something wrong and was spoken to.


"Your honour, this yute need some discipline. Many times his mother talk to him and don't get no respect, so I slap him in his face," Dennis said,


Resident Magistrate Horace Mitchell told the accused that he should have told the child's parents about his behaviour.


The court heard that the complainant was seen tearing a fence and was accosted by the accused. Following a disagreement, he slapped the teenager in his face, which caused swelling and bruises.


A report was made to Corporal Henry Parkins of the St Catherine South police, who arrested and charged Dennis with assault occasioning bodily harm.
