One of two men shot in Darlow, Mocho, Clarendon, on Wednesday night, may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Residents told The WEEKEND STAR that taxi operator Keith 'Gillie' Blackstock, 42, of Ashley in Mocho, was shot dead and another man, said to be from Gimme-Mi-Bit, Clarendon, was shot and injured when a gunman fired at patrons at a party. The injured man has been hospitalised in critical condition.
Police said about 9:30, both men were seated outside a bar where the party was being held, when a car drove up and a man alighted and fired on patrons.
When the shooting subsided, the injured man was rushed to hospital. Blackstock, police said, ran into bushes after being shot and was found dead yesterday morning.
A friend of the deceased said following the shooting, "All the other vehicles drove away, except for Blackstock's. So me say something wrong and me call his phone, but I didn't get any answer. So early this morning me go in the bush, and see him at the banana tree root dead," the teary-eyed woman recalled. "Gillie, a good youth, him don't deserve to dead like this, but a so it go."
A large crowd gathered yesterday as police processed the crime scene. Many suggested the injured man may have been the gunman's target but Blackstock was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
