Residents in the community of Eltham, St Catherine, have stated that car thieves have been plaguing the area in recent times.
It was revealed that thieves have been specialising in the theft of Toyota Corolla E110, Nissan Sunny B13 and Honda motor cars.
THE STAR was informed that one man, believed to have been involved in the cases, was shot and killed on Monday after he stole a Honda Civic motor car.
"The two bwoy tief the man car, but when it shut off and them tried to start it one was shot and killed while di next one run," a resident said.
The dead man has been identified as Michael Graham, 35, unemployed of no fixed address.
Sending a message
Meanwhile the residents said they are hoping that the recent death will send a message to thieves to stop plaguing their community.
When THE STAR checked the Spanish Town police it was revealed that Graham was one of two men who stole the car in Eltham.
The owner, who is a policeman, missed his vehicle and when they were intercepted he was challenged and Graham was shot in the process. His accomplice, who escaped, is being sought.
It was confirmed that the police have received numerous reports on the theft of motor vehicles and general criminal activities in the area.
The Independent Commission of Investigations are probing the incident.
