A St Catherine man who collected almost $2,000,000 to build a house and failed to hand over the house or return the money was granted $300,000 bail.
He is Dwayne Lemar of Central Village.
When the matter was mentioned in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court last Friday, the complainant, who lives abroad, did not wish to continue with the matter. He said he made the report after he lost contact with Lemar after making a payment of $700,000 to him last December.
He said that after calling Lemar and not getting him, he decided to get the police involved. The man said when he next called he heard that the accused was in custody on drug-related charges.
Full restitution
After a promised restitution, a further statement was collected from the complainant who said that he decided not to pursue the matter.
It was agreed that on March 10, 2015, full restitution would be made to a relative appointed by the complainant.
Allegations are that Lemar was paid the first tranche in 2011 and the last in December.
The court heard that he could not be found and that he was arrested and charged with fraud following an investigation.
Meanwhile, the accused was told to report on Thursdays to the Spanish Town Police Station.
Lemar was represented by attorney-at-law Anthony Wilmot
