Students and teachers have expressed sadness at the death of 14-year-old Azee Baker, who allegedly died while at the Spanish Town Hospital after exhibiting symptoms related to the chikungunya virus.

At the St Jago High School where he was a third-form student, his form teacher, Charmaine Hunter, recounted the kind of student he was.

"He was a very pleasant student, very well-mannered and very disciplined.

I never had any disciplinary problems with him. He was very quiet, very neat, always put-together and he was a caring student to the point where, whenever something happened in the class and students were affected, he would always be the one to encourage them," she said as tears began streaming down her face.

His form teacher mentioned that early in the morning, students led tributes for Baker, who was also a member of the basketball team.

At his classroom, there were flowers, his pictures and heartfelt tributes written on the whiteboard and on cartridge papers that hung on the wall.

One student said Baker was a true friend.

"Azee was like a brother to me. Anytime I was down, he would comfort me and stay with me after school until my ride came. I miss him a lot," classmate Renee Johnson said .
