A Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldier was shot and injured during a gun battle with armed thugs in west Kingston late Tuesday, THE STAR understands.
Information reaching our news desk is that shortly after 10 p.m., during a joint operation, members of the security team who were conducting foot patrol on Bread Lane and Charles Street came under attack.

During an exchange of gunfire, the soldier was shot.
THE STAR gathered that he was assisted to the hospital by his colleagues where he was treated and later released.
Our news team was informed that the police seized a magazine with 13 live rounds following the incident.
Meanwhile, The west Kingston Division has experienced a spate of shootings to include murder over the past month.
Twelve-year-old Kawayne McAnuff and Ricardo Lowe, 30, were killed when gunmen opened fire on a group of people on Bread Lane on April 4.
Nine other persons were injured in the incident.
