A woman who proffered a fraudulent cheque at a supermarket was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Charged with possession of and uttering forged documents was Marcia Williams.
The court heard that on the day of the incident, Williams went to a Corporate Area supermarket and issued a fraudulent cheque in the sum of $47,900 in an attempt to obtain goods from the supermarket.
It was discovered that the cheque was dishonourable. The police were subsequently alerted and Williams was arrested on the compound of the supermarket.
In court, attorney Kerry-Anne Wilson, entered a plea in mitigation and beseeched Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey to lessen the sentence of the accused.
However, due to nine previous convictions, the RM sentenced her to 18 months imprisonment and also sternly warned her.
