A heavy cloud hang over the island today as we hear the news that we sweet sister, LaToya Malcolm, gone too soon. Only thirty-five years old she was, but she did leave a mark pon this world that nobody can't rub out. From the stage of Miss Universe Jamaica to the big screen, LaToya was a star that shine bright, and now that the light dim, the whole of Jamaica feeling the pain. It heart-wrenching to see such a vibrant soul depart from the land of the living when she did have so much more for give.
Many of us remember back in 2013 when she step out pon the stage for the Miss Universe Jamaica pageant. She never just have the looks; she had the grace and the brains to match. When she walk, you could see the pride of her nation inna every step. She did make it all the way to the finals, and even though she never wear the big crown that night, in the eyes of the people, she was already a queen. She represent the strength and the beauty of the Jamaican woman, showing the whole world that we girls can stand up tall anywhere they go and hold them head high.
But LaToya never stop at pageantry. She was a woman of many talents who did love her culture and her craft. She take her talent go a stage and screen, showing us that she could act just as good as she could walk the runway. Whether she was inna productions like The No-Good Mother or appearing inna Real Friends, she did bring a kind of energy that make you have to pay attention. She was dedicated to her work, always pushing herself to be better, and the entertainment community really feel this loss deep inna them soul.
People who know her personally say she was one of the kindest souls you could ever meet. She always have a smile and a good word for everybody she cross paths with. It hard for the family and friends right now, and the whole industry inna mourning. We lose a real gem, a daughter of the soil who did have a spirit that was pure and true. Even though she gone to the other side, her work and her spirit going live on inna the hearts of those she touch over the years.
As we say goodbye to this beautiful queen, we have to remember the joy she bring to the world. Life short, and LaToya remind us to live it with purpose and with love. We send we deepest condolences to her family and her loved ones during this dark time. Walk good, LaToya. You did your part, and you did it well. Rest in eternal peace, princess. Jamaica will never forget the name LaToya Malcolm.
