It’s a sticky situation, man. See, the US government looking for what them call "protection partners." Because the situation inna places like Haiti getting more desperate every day, more and more people taking to the sea inna small boat, hoping for a better life. But the US don't want to handle the whole load by themselves, so them looking to their neighbors in the sun to see who can take in these people and process their claims. Jamaica is one of the main places them eyeing, and that causing a whole heap of friction inna the region.

This whole business a-cause a big rift inna the Caribbean family. Some people feel like the US just trying to push off their problems onto smaller islands that already have enough on them plate. We know how the system set up already—health care, housing, and jobs already tight for the local people. So when the news break that more people might be coming in to stay, even if it's just for a while, it make some people's head hot. The leaders them in Kingston have to move real careful, because the people watching every step them take.

But you have to look at the human side of things too. We talking about mothers, fathers, and little pickney who fleeing from real danger. As Caribbean people, we always pride ourselves on being hospitable and helping out a brother or sister in need. However, the question remain: how much can we really manage? The political tension high because nobody want to seem like them just doing whatever the US say, yet them don't want to turn their backs on people inna crisis either. It’s a balance, and right now the scale shaking.

For now, the talks still going on behind closed doors for the most part. The officials them say nothing sign and seal yet, but the pressure building up. This migrant situation is a global problem, but it hitting right at home now. We have to keep our eyes wide open to see if this deal gwine go through or if the Caribbean nations gwine stand up and tell Uncle Sam that the burden too heavy for we alone to carry. One thing is for sure, the spirit of the Caribbean being tested like never before.
