Two men charged with the murder of a St Catherine farmer were granted bail in the sum of $100,000 when they appeared in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Tevin Phillips, 33, and 19-year-old Joel Bailey, labourers of Linstead St Catherine, are charged with the murder of Samuel Blake, a 56-year-old farmer of Victoria district, Linstead, St Catherine.
Attorneys-at-Law Esther Reid and Earl Hamilton made successful bail applications when the men appeared before Resident Magistrate Natalee Brooks .
The court was told that the men have being languishing in custody since November last year and intend to prove their innocence. The court was also told that the accused men have no previous convictions; have fixed addresses and are not flight risks.
Allegations are that on November 8, 2014, Samuels' body was dug from a shallow grave in Linstead.
It was later revealed that he was beaten and stabbed to death. An investigation was launched by the Linstead police, which resulted in Bailey and Phillips being charged with murder by Detective Sergeant Oral Israel.
The accused men are to report to the Linstead Police Station weekly, and are to return to court on May 13.
