Five adults and two children have been left homeless after fire destroyed a four-bedroom house located on James Street in central Kingston, yesterday morning.
The fire reportedly started sometime after eight in one of the four rooms.
Residents saw smoke coming from the dwelling and alerted the fire brigade. Units from the York Park Fire Station responded to the blaze, which quickly engulfed the wooden structure.
An occupant of the house, David Simmonds, said he only managed to save a television set and some clothes.
Some residents of the community blamed the fire brigade for not responding fast enough.
However, a district officer at the York Park Fire Station said firefighters arrived on the scene quickly.
A resident who identified himself as Jerome said the team arrived speedily and did a good job as other houses nearby could have also caught fire.
