Man fondles 9-y-o gets 4 years

A man who pleaded guilty to fondling a nine-year-old girl two years ago was sentenced to four years' imprisonment in the St Catherine Circuit Court last Friday.

The 40-year-old accused, who is from Linstead, St Catherine, was chided for his actions. Presiding judge Justice Bertram Morrison told him that a message had to be sent that his actions were horrible. The accused was then given a custodial sentence. He was represented by attorney-at-law Ricardo Sancroft.

It was revealed that in 2013, the accused, who is a relative of the complainant, took her to his home. He then started to touch her inappropriately.

The child related her ordeal to her parents and a report was made to the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse.

An investigation was launched by Detective Constable Stacey-Ann Cooper-Prince, which resulted in the accused being charged with sexual touching of a minor.
