No breakthrough in Kitson Town double murder

The St Catherine North Police Division is yet to make a breakthrough in a double murder that rocked a rural farming community on Saturday.

Those killed have been identified as Radcliffe Richards, 47-year-old, and his wife, Ann-Marie, of Kingland district, Kitson Town, St Catherine.

Reports are that about 8:15 p.m. they were at home with family members when the criminal/s entered and fired shots killing the Richards on the spot.

When THE STAR visited the farming community, scores of concerned persons had gathered.

"They were Christians and it was just after they came from church that they were attacked. It is a very terrifying experience," Jamaica Labour Party councillor Keith McCook said.

His view was echoed by the People's National Party representative, Donovan Wayne Nathan; "They were good persons, as a matter of fact, I had family dinner with them last week. It is a very sad time for the community."

THE STAR was told that the community has been tense in recent times and the murder has made it worse.

"We are mainly small farmers of chickens, goats and so forth, but the crime is threatening to cripple us. This is bad," a female bystander said.

Three weeks ago, police shot and killed an alleged gunman and seized an M16 rifle in the community.

"We are yet to establish a motive, however, we need to get information that can help us catch these gunmen. We can only succeed through partnership," Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth told THE STAR.

Meanwhile, the St Catherine Major Investigation Task Force is conducting a probe into the matter.
