JUTC discontinuing "pay for other' feature

Effective Monday, January 5, the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) will be discontinuing the "pay for other" feature for concession passengers on its smarter card system.

Marketing and Communications Manager at the JUTC, Clinton Clarke, in an interview with JIS News, said the feature will now only allow for payment of adult passenger fares.

This means that all students and senior citizens will need to have their personal cards to access concessionary fares on the JUTC buses.

"You will not be able to use your concession card to pay for another concession passenger, so a student at school will not be able to pay for a friend; your friend must have his or her own card," Clarke explained. As such, Clarke is encouraging all concession passengers who have not yet acquired smarter cards to do so before January 5, 2015, "the 'pay for other' feature will be removed."

JUTC smarter cards are available at the Half-Way Tree Transport Centre, Spanish Town Bus Park, East Parade in downtown Kingston, and Portmore Pines Plaza, St Catherine.
