The police have started its fight against the illegal gun trade with the seizure of a handgun in rural St Andrew on New Year's Day.
Reports are that about 12:05 a.m., police personnel from the Special Operation team were on patrol when, upon reaching an area known as Cross Road in Salisbury Plain community, a man was spotted by the police with what appeared to be a gun in his hand.
When he was accosted by the police, he reportedly threw away the weapon. After it was retrieved, it was found to be a 9MM Browning Pistol with a magazine containing three live rounds of ammunition.
The man managed to elude the police.
This makes it three, the number of guns seized by the Lawrence Tavern police in the last month. On December 17, two 9MM Pistols were seized in the area.
