Car accident leaves one dead, female hospitalised

A two-vehicle collision along the Dunbeholden main road in St Catherine has resulted in the death of an auto-mechanic and the hospitalisation of a female.


Dead is Oneil Gray, 31, of Dunbeholden district, St Catherine.


Reports are that about 12:30 p.m., Gray was driving a Toyota Corolla motor car along the road.


Upon reaching a section, he reportedly attempted to make a U-turn in the road.


A Mazda motor truck conveying mail collided in the Toyota.


The impact resulted in both vehicles extensively damaged.


The female driver of the Mazda along with Gray were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital.


As the news spread, scores of persons converged.


"He is a great mechanic, but him really drive hard and see it here this is what cause his death," Marcia Bembridge, a bystander said.


"The mazda is mine and the driver was taking mail to the Spanish Town Post Office from the headquarters in Kingston," Florizel Greenwood said.


Gray succumbed to his injuries while the female remained hospitalised with multiple broken bones.


The St Catherine South Traffic Department is conducting a probe into the matter.
