A man accused of assaulting his common-law spouse had his bail extended when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Charged with unlawful wounding is 49-year-old higgler Astley Johnson of a York Street, Kingston 16, address.
The Crown alleged that on May 9 at approximately 10:15 a.m., Johnson and his common-law wife at that time, reportedly had a dispute at their home, during which the accused used a piece of board with a nail attached to inflict wounds to the left middle, and ring finger of her hand, causing bruises and swelling to her left upper arm.
"So ma'am, you can resolve the matter in another way than through trial?" Resident Magistrate (RM) Georgiana Fraser asked the complainant.
"Him want to have a relationship and I don't really want that," she replied. "Is not a man that you can make arrangements with; that's why I brought him to court in the first place."
The court heard that as a result of the injuries received, the complainant is in need of physiotherapy so as to regain the full function of her limb.
Subsequently, the accused man had his bail extended until September 16, pending an outstanding medical report.
