A taxi driver accused of having sexual relations with an underage girl last year had his bail condition altered when he appeared in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
When the case came up for mention, defence attorney Lancelot Clarke Jnr successfully applied that his client be allow to drive a taxi. The attorney said the accused not being able to operate a cab is adversely affecting his ability pay counsel.
Resident Magistrate Natalee Brooks then ordered that the accused can operate a taxi. He was also warned to keep away from the complainant and other witnesses and return to court on October 16, 2014.
Allegations are that in January last year, the complainant went to rehearse at a modelling agency. After a number of calls to her cellular phone went unanswered, she was reported as a missing person.
She later turned up at the Linstead Police Station, and during an interview, revealed the unlawful relationship between herself and the accused. A probe was launched by the police, which resulted in the accused being charged with having sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16.
