A former government employee was sentenced to six months imprisonment yesterday in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court for stealing a Samsung cell phone and inciting violence during the process.
Charged with robbery and using personal violence is 41-year-old Oswald Bryan.
He pleaded guilty but through his attorney, Alando Terrelonge, denied any aggravation, while putting forward his arguments in a lengthy 45 minutes plea for forgiveness.
The court was told that on the day in question, the complainant was walking along the roadway while talking on her cell phone with a church sister.
Allegations are that Bryan approached and told her not to make any noise, following which he grabbed the device and they began to wrestle.
The complainant said she plead the blood of Jesus against Bryan who shoved her to the ground and made off with the cell phone.
The court heard that he ran through Half-Way-Tree and was later captured while giving chase, the complainant, raised an alarm.
When he was held he allegedly said these words, "Sorry mommy, sorry, a hungry mi hungry why mi do it."
Bryan's attorney tried unsuccessfully to sway Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey's decision.
RM Pusey told the attorney, "This is an inappropriate place to ask for forgiveness, I am into sentencing. I'm very unforgiving with this phone thing. The Jamaican people would beat me if I let go this man"
Bryan was then sentenced to six months and a fingerprint order was made.
