Alleged copper wire thief gets bail extension

Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer

A St Catherine man who is charged with the theft of copper wires belonging to Digicel had his bail extended when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

He is Donovan Medley, a labourer, of Spanish Town, St Catherine.

When the matter came up for mention, Medley's lawyer, Everton Dwyer, told the court that his client would be proclaiming his innocence when the matter is being tried.

As a result, Medley's bail was extended until June 16 when the trial is expected to start.

Allegations are that in December 2012, police personnel intercepted a vehicle driven by the accused along Brunswick Avenue in Spanish Town.

During a search of his vehicle, a number of crocus bags containing copper wire were detected.

Further allegations are that the accused man failed to give adequate account as to his possession of the items. He was later charged with simple larceny.
