Operating theatres in Sav hospital reopen

The two operating theatres at the Savanna La Mar General Hospital in Westmoreland have been reopened after being closed for renovation since February.

Minister of state with responsibility for Primary Health Care Infrastructure, Luther Buchanan, commended the management of the hospital for measures undertaken to facilitate patients during the period of closure.

"We have upgraded the operating theatres to provide a safer and more wholesome environment, for both our patients and the health team. I am happy that we were able to complete the work in such a short space of time, and we now have a space where we can safely deliver improved surgical services and quality care to our patients," he said.

Buchanan thanked members of the public for their understanding while the work was being carried out.

The scope of work included waterproofing the roof, improving the air quality and the air-condition system, tiling and other repairs.

The National Health Fund provided funding for the project.
